NBA Trades: Orlando Magic
Following years of medicocrity, the Orlando Magic had a strong season in 2023-24, even nearly making the Eastern Conference semi-finals. Their biggest weakness, their lack of shooting, came back to bite them against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
They did go out and get Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who was one of the better shooters available in free agency but they ranked 29th in 3-point attempts and 24th in 3-point percentage. Orlando can continue to address their weakness by making a move for Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons.
One possibility would be the Magic sending Cole Anthony, Anthony Black, and a first for Simons. Simons is one of the best high-volume shooters in the NBA and would help solve Orlando's biggest weakness for a relatively affordable cost. For Orlando, they'd get a recent top 10 pick, a starting caliber guard, and a first while also bottoming out to possibly tank for the number one pick in 2025.
The potential is there for this deal to work out for both teams but the Magic need the deal more than the Blazers. Particularly with how stacked the Eastern Conference appears to be heading into 2024-25.
