Wolvves-Jazz trade

NBA Trades: Minnesota Timberwolves

After stunningly trading Karl-Anthony Towns, it seems that they did so with the possibility of giving Naz Reid more playing time. One possibility is to trade Julius Randle, who was recently acquired, to the Utah Jazz. The Jazz would be an odd fit for Randle considering that they appear to be in a rebuild but they also have Lauri Markkanen, whom they will probably try to build around after giving him a 5-year, $240 million contract.

Them trading for Randle would be a smart flyer for them since Randle might not consider signing with them were he to hit free agency after next season. He might not be a perfect fit with Markkanen but he might be gettable. For the Wolves, they'd finally give Reid a chance to start, get a replacement backup four in Collins—whom they can also later use his massive salary in a trade, Walker Kessler, and add a first-round pick.

Moving on from Randle early on in his tenure might be risky, especially since he might be willing to sign a reasonable extension after the Knicks declined to. However, Reid would thrive in a bigger role is far cheaper than Towns and Randle, and would have lower usage, giving Antony Edwards more touches.

They would still also have Donte DiVencenzo from the original deal as well as Kessler, who would help to bolster an already stout defense. It may not be the most attractive trade for the Wolves but it would give them more flexibility and depth.
