Bucks-Grizzlies trade

NBA Trades: Milwaukee Bucks

Despite the Milwaukee Bucks having limited assets heading into the summer, they had a surprisingly good offseason. They added Gary Trent Jr. for the minimum after he made nearly $18 million last season. They also added Taurean Prince, who will also be a rotation player, for the minimum.

Even still, they find themselves falling behind the Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, and possibly even the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference. That may lead to them making another move ahead of or during the 2024–25 season. The option could involve them trading backup big man Bobby Portis for Memphis Grizzlies big man Brandon Clarke.

Portis, even though he has been a perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidate, has seen his name appear in trade rumors of late. That is because he will soon be able to hit free agency and that the Bucks don't have many trade options to try and improve their roster.

A straight-up swap for Clarke would make sense considering that Clarke has three years remaining on his contract for roughly what Portis is making now. Meanwhile, while Portis may demand a significant raise after this season when Milwaukee is trying to save money due to luxury tax and second apron concerns.

The Grizzlies could use more shooting, Portis would provide spacing in their front court. Meanwhile, Clark would give Milwaukee an athletic big man who can defend the rim and away from the basket as well as finish lobs in the paint. With the Bucks having limited assets as far as picks, this might be the best they can do to improve the roster and keep salaries down.
