NBA Trades: Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers were uncharacteristically quiet this summer but can make a last-minute deal with the Washington Wizards to try and improve their roster. One potential deal may see them trade D'Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, a 2029 first round pick (top 3 protected), and a 2027 2nd round pick to the Wizards for Kyle Kuzma and Jonas Valanciunas. That move would help bolster the Lakers frontcourt by giving them more scoring with Kuzma and more size with Valanciunas.

Kuzma averaged 22 points per game last season and could serve as a third option behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Valanciunas would also help by allowing Davis to play his natural position at power forward.

Having a big front line usually translates into defensive success, with LeBron, Davis, and Valanciunas being among the biggest in the NBA, not to mention that Kuzma is 6'9. Moreover, he has historically been a productive scorer and rebounder who can also knock down the occasional three.

Making a move prior to the start of the regular season would give the Lakers more time with their new players. That would ensure that they don't dig themselves in an early hole and keep them in the playoff race rather than have to make up ground later.
