NBA Trades: Knicks add Malcolm Brogdon in proposed deal with Blazers

Portland Trail Blazers guard Malcolm Brogdon has been one of the game’s most consistent point guards since he came into the league. He has averaged at least ten points per game every season of his career and has shot above 38 percent from three-point range in six of his eight seasons.

This season, he has averaged 12 points and three assists per game off the bench. He also has a wealth of playoff experience, including just last year, when he was a part of the Boston Celtics Eastern Conference Finals run.

The Knicks need a steady hand like Brogdon off the bench that can lessen the scoring load on Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. That is what Quickley gave them, and Brogdon can do more in that role given his leadership and playmaking ability. Here is what the Knicks should trade to get the veteran floor general.

teamThis is a win-win trade for both sides. The Blazers are a rebuilding team, and need as many picks as they can get to continue to add young talent. They need all the help they can get, as they are at the bottom of the West this season. The Knicks can play around with the protections to ensure that the pick conveys for the Blazers.

Additionally, Evan Fournier would likely not be in the Blazers future plans and is only in the trade to match Brogdon’s salary. The Blazers can either buy him out or wait until after the season when his contract would come off the books completely.

The Knicks signaled that they were ready to move toward the upper echelon of the East with the Anun trade. Now, they need to add another ball handler that can lighten the load on Brunson, as they want to make sure he is in good condition for a potentially deep playoff run. Brogdon would fit in seamlessly due to his playstyle, and experience. This is a move the Knicks need to make in order to keep improving.
