NBA trade rumors: Are the Spurs after a 7'2 center?

After snapping an ugly 18-game losing streak, the San Antonio Spurs have been linked to a 7'2 big man as they look to improve around number-one pick Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs' reported interest in Bol is a bit odd considering that they could have signed him outright once he was waived by the Orlando Magic this past summer. Moreover, he hasn't done much since signing with the Phoenix Suns to make him a trade asset.

Then again, the Spurs lost backup center Charles Bassey for the season due to an ACL tear and only have Victor Wembanyama, Zach Collins, and Sandro Mamukelashvili at center. Wembanyama is sure to receive more rest as the season wears on, while Collins has a long injury history and Mamukelashvili is more of a power forward, so adding more size isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Bol would be a cheap and intriguing flyer for the Spurs to take, especially with Wembanyama as another 7'0+ center with perimeter skills. That being said, there are other possibilities the Spurs can pursue with an abundance of centers available, whether it be in free agency, the trade market, or a G-League call-up. Or, San Antonio could simply roll with their current rotation, knowing that they don't necessarily need another 7'0 center to compete at center.
