NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks chasing all-star PF?

The New York Knicks have been linked to Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns for months, even years. And while the league-leading Timberwolves probably aren't trading their second-best player this season, they may soon have to. Why? Anthony Edwards' massive contract extension kicks in next season, and they will be paying Towns, Edwards, and Rudy Gobert at least $30 million each, plus Naz Reid $15 million.

The Timberwolves are a small market team and probably couldn't swing that. Instead, they may look to turn Towns into two or three rotation players and a couple of picks and promote Reid from backup to starting power forward. One potential option for the Knicks is to offer up Julius Randle, Quentin Grimes, and Isaiah Hartenstein, along with a first for Towns this summer.

Adding Towns, who's known for his shooting and ability to score in the paint and re-signing recently acquired OG Anunoby, who's one of the best defensive wings in the NBA, would be a terrific offseason for New York. That may not help the Knicks in the short-term but their persistence could pay off in the long run.
