NBA Rumors: Jaylen Brown's liked post raises questions about his future with Celtics
By Cal Durrett
The Boston Celtics have been dominant all season and are the favorites to win it all. Despite that, a recent post by star Jaylen Brown raised some eyebrows in the NBA world. The liked tweet states that Brown would be putting up as many as 30 points per game if he were playing elsewhere. Take a look.
The post itself might have a point, and it isn't that far-fetched either, with Brown having to share the ball with Jayson Tatum, Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White, and Jrue Holiday. As a result, he's averaging fewer points for more team success and that seems like an easy tradeoff.
Still, the timing of the liked tweet seems odd due to the Celtics' dominance this season. They appear to have a great chance to make the NBA Finals, but it is definitely notable.
Does Jaylen Brown want out of Boston?
In short, probably not. His liking the tweet could be as innocent as his agreeing that he would be putting up bigger numbers on a less stacked team and less about him wanting his own team. Of course, with his monster contract extension kicking in after this season, he may eventually get to play elsewhere. After all, he'll make between $49 million and $65 million over the next five years and Tatum will eventually make even more once he is eligible for a super-max extension.
That could force the Celtics to have to choose between the two players and it isn't much of a choice with Tatum being one of the best players in the NBA. Despite that, that could be a couple of seasons away from happening and the Celtics are all-in on trying to win now before having to make tough decisions down the road.
All in all, it doesn't appear that Brown is making a statement with his recent social media activity. Even still, given financial concerns for the Celtics, Brown may one day be able to see if he can average 30 points per game for another team.
