Grade the Trade: Nuggets unite MVP winners; make Jokic happy in mock Clippers deal
By Dalton Sell
The Clippers' perspective
The Athletic's Shams Charania reported in late June that the Clippers were actively involved in talks to move off of Westbrook. It makes sense from Los Angeles' point of view, as they have a surplus of ball-handling guards in James Harden, Bones Hyland, Kevin Porter Jr. and Kris Dunn once his deal gets announced officially. There's not a lot of room for Russell Westbrook on the guard depth chart.
The trade offers for Westbrook won't be overly desirable; if they were, he'd have been traded by now. If they can scrape together a second-round pick and a young player who's under control financially over the next few seasons, it'd be a fine enough return for a player they are actively trying to move. Sending him to another West contender might not be desirable, but this is not a needle-tipper.
At 23, Nnaji is still young and could help in this mini-youth retooling the Clippers have undergone this NBA off-season. Perhaps they could give the forward an opportunity to see what's under the hood. If he doesn't pan out, he gives them a player with a very tradeable salary that could be used to further improve the roster down the line. Another draft pick to utilize would also be quite desirable.
Unless they are somehow blown away by another offer, this is a reasonable proposal from LA's POV.
