The Milwaukee Bucks have had a surprisingly quiet offseason after losing in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. With minor changes to their roster, they will have to rely more on stars Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Lillard got off to a slow start last season but will hopefully play much better now that he will be more comfortable playing alongside a fellow Superstar. Meanwhile, Giannis spent part of the summer playing for Greece in the lead-up to and during the Olympics and showed off a new skill.
Giannis appears to have reworked his jumper, leading to him hitting more shots from the mid-range. If Giannis' reworked shot can carry over into next season, then that would be a game changer for both him and the Bucks, with Giannis already being one of the toughest players in the NBA to stop.
Giannis has a new weapon in his arsenal and it could be a game changer for the Bucks.
Over the last five seasons, Giannis has put up absolutely monster numbers, posting 29 points per game on 56.4% shooting—without a jump shot, mind you. If he can unleash a serviceable mid-range jumper on the NBA, it may help him maintain his outlandish production as he enters his 30s.
Giannis' game is largely dependent on physicality but that type of play doesn't always age well and when his athleticism wanes, then his production could drop. However, if he can become a capable mid-range shooter, then he won't have to drive as much or bang in the post as much. Teams will likely be willing to give him that shot, rather than have to defend him in the paint.
Having Giannis continue to play at a high level gives the Bucks several more years of relevance. Although they are still a step below the Boston Celtics, Giannis and Lillard are still good enough to help Milwaukee knock off any other team in the Eastern Conference. That may begin with him knocking down shots from outside.
