Why the Detroit Pistons shouldn't be THIS bad.

The vast majority of these historically terrible teams had a combination of a bad head coach (or in some cases multiple bad head coaches), injured stars or a lack of star talent, and/or no depth at all. The Pistons on the other hand have aspects of all three of these pillars. They have Monty Williams who won the 2021-2022 Coach of the Year award.

They have high-caliber draft prospects and young talent in Cade Cunningham (#1 overall pick, 22 years old), Jaden Ivey (#5 overall pick, 21 years old), Ausar Thompson (#5 overall pick, 20 years old), Killian Hayes (#7 overall pick, 22 years old), Marvin Bagley III (#2 overall pick, 24 years old), and James Wiseman (#2 overall pick, 22 years old).

They have older supplemental pieces and veterans who are quality role players in Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic. Sure, the Pistons have had injuries and guys like Jalen Duren and Monte Morris are out right now… but they should not be this important.

No one expected the Pistons to be some amazing team this year, however this pitiful showing in 2023 truly is rock-bottom for this franchise. Who is most to blame for this travesty?
