6 Potential Team USA one-two punches that can deliver them the gold
By Cal Durrett
1) Anthony Edwards-Jayson Tatum
It's no secret that there has been a significant drop-off in terms of American-born NBA superstars. After all, many of the best players in the NBA will be playing for other countries, including Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and now Victor Wembanyama. With this being the last dance for the likes of LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant in terms of
Olympic competition, Team USA will need younger stars in their pipeline going forward, and Anthony Edwards and Jayson Tatum could be the leaders of the new school. Tatum just turned 26 years old and may have two more Olympics in the future, while Edwards is merely 22.
Although Edwards is unlikely to play a big role on this Olympic team, that could mirror LeBron's international career. He barely played on the 2004 Olympic team but was a huge part of subsequent ones, including the 2008 and 2012 teams.
The same could happen with Edwards, who is young enough to be able to compete on at least three Olympic teams going forward. Ultimately, this Olympic roster is older than many of their recent counterparts, with five players over 30 but Tatum and Edwards could be the future of the roster.
