5 Karl-Anthony Towns trades the Timberwolves must consider
By Cal Durrett
If the Cavs aren't able to agree to terms on a new deal with Donovan Mitchell, then the Wolves should be aggressive in trying to trade for him. A 3-team deal involving the Cavs, Wolves, and New Orleans Pelicans in which the Wolves receive Mitchell, the Pelicans land Allen, and the Cavs net Towns, Larry Nance Jr., and three first-round picks.
Mitchell is definitely the better player between him and Garland, though he is four years older. Still, putting him next to Edwards would definitely boost Minnesota's perimeter attack, giving them a strong chance to return to the Western Conference Finals. It would cost the Wolves the 24th pick in the draft, which they couldn't officially trade until after the pick was made.
Additionally, the Cavs would receive the 21st pick from the Pelicans via the Milwaukee Bucks, as well as a 2025 first from New Orleans via the Lakers. That would give the Pelicans a new starting center, the Cavs a star to replace Mitchell, plus three firsts, while the Wolves would dramatically upgrade their backcourt.
