Paolo Banchero, Orlando Magic

Banchero and the Orlando Magic surprised the NBA world last season by finishing 47-35 and receiving the fifth seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs. The 2022-23 Rookie of the Year elevated his game in his sophomore season, becoming an All-Star. Banchero accomplished career-high averages across the board, with the exceptions being rebounds per game, turnovers per game, and free throw percentage. Another uptick in his game could further Banchero's game into the future.

While the nearly 22-year-old has established himself as Orlando's franchise player, he could potentially set himself up to be the league's most marketable player in the post-LeBron James era of the NBA. With LeBron, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant nearing the end of their careers (and inevitably retirement), the league must identify its next league-altering superstar. With the complete game of Paolo, in addition to his positive on and off-the-court actions, he's an encouraging option for the NBA.

In addition, Orlando has one of the league's youngest rosters, with nearly their whole roster aged 27 or younger, with the only exceptions being Gary Harris (soon-to-be 30), Kentavious-Caldwell-Pope (31), and Cory Joseph (33). Their ascension towards the top of the Eastern Conference already began last season, but drafting Tristan da Silva in the first round and signing KCP in free agency. Orlando also re-signed Franz Wagner and Jonathan Isaac, initiating its championship window into the future.

Viewed as a young, winning team, the league could look to a former first overall pick as its 'next face of the league'. Even then, better options are available for the league. One of the biggest concerns of gifting Paolo the 'next face of the league' title is the small market (Orlando) he resides in, and the constant uncertainty with Orlando. However, the Magic appear to be trending forward in a huge way, which could pave the way for one of the NBA's youngest stars to be the face of the league.
