No. 2: Jimmy Butler

The Miami Heat are not willing to commit maximum money to end-of-career Jimmy Butler. That’s the starting point to understand how Butler could possibly be traded after multiple years of showing himself to be a perfect fit in the Heat’s culture.

The Heat have struggled to end seasons the last couple of years and often end up limping into the postseason. They made an inspired run as the eighth seed two years ago, but last year Butler was not healthy to end the year and the Heat were vulnerable as a Play-Team.

Multiple teams have expressed interest in the former All-NBA forward, especially given his proven track record of excellence in the postseason. The Golden State Warriors, for one, made calls about Butler over the summer.

The most likely scenario is that Butler stays with the Heat for the entirety of the season and they revisit next steps in the offseason, but it’s absolutely in play for Butler to agitate for a new deal and be dealt during the season itself.
