2) Thompson brings championship mettle

The only Maverick on the roster last season who knows what it takes to win a championship is Kyrie Irving, besting Thompson and the Warriors in that epic 2016 clash for the ages that went seven games with the Cavaliers making history as the only team to come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the finals.

Being a champion is one thing, but being a multi-time champion is another level not even Irving can claim. Thompson coming to an organization that has a sour taste of losing in the finals where they were outmatched will help bring that mental toughness and title pedigree that will rub off on his teammates.

The Mavericks have some young pieces that could definitely benefit from Thompson's experience and winning pedigree from Dereck Lively who surprised many this season with his level of play on both ends all season long. Let's not forget their 2022 draft pick, Jaden Hardy, who could pick up pointers on how to move without the ball better from one of the best to do it in NBA history.

He and Irving will be the veterans looked upon as two guys who are future Hall of Famers who have proven to be winners at the NBA level to help get Doncic and the Mavericks over the hump.
