3 potential LeBron James landing spots were he to bolt in free agency
By Ismail Sy
Over the past two decades, it has been very rare to see the words “LeBron James” and “trade rumors” in the same sentence. However, with his cryptic tweets, interviews, and wearing a New York Knicks towel around his shoulders, people around the league took notice. Was James unhappy with the current state of the Los Angeles Lakers?
James has since stated that he is happy in LA and would like to finish his career as a Laker. It is all about what happens in the second half of the season for him. However, if he were to request a trade, teams would be interested. Here are three potential teams that James could land on this offseason.
3. Golden State Warriors
It is no secret that Warriors owner Joe Lacob called the Lakers about the availability of James. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported as much. The Warriors have one goal: maximize the years that guard Stephen Curry has left. Curry is not getting any younger and while he already has four rings, he would like to remain in championship contention until he retires.
The Warriors have also been a middling team like the Lakers this year, currently occupying the final play-in spot in the Western Conference. They have constantly been in trade rumors all season with no major moves to show for it. However, if they crash and burn in the postseason this season, they could be due for a major shakeup in the offseason.
If both the Lakers and Warriors flame out in the postseason, that could make the NBA offseason very interesting. James could be unhappy with the state of the roster and want to go to a team that would maximize the rest of his career. Nothing would do that better than a team up with the greatest shooter of all time in Curry.
Having that duo share the court together would be scary for the rest of the league and given the interest they already had at the deadline, the Warriors would pounce. Also, James has expressed his desire to play with Curry before. It would be less than ideal for the Lakers, but if James expresses his unhappiness, expect the Warriors to be at the top of his trade wishlist.
