21 up-for-grabs players who may play a starring role in NBA trade deadline rumors

Ben Simmons, Brooklyn Nets
It's been an incredibly challenging few years for Ben Simmons due to injuries. After missing the entire 2021-22 season, he played 42 games the following year and just 15 last year. Teams won't be high on the versatile forward due to his recent bout with injuries, but the Brooklyn Nets will certainly do their best to try and move off of him this season.
When healthy, Simmons is a fascinating player, and he's proven he can play at the highest level with three All-Star and two All-Defensive nods. He's an excellent facilitator, rebounder and passer who could help a team looking to make a push. However, it feels unlikely that many teams might be willing to take the ultimate gamble and make a play for Ben Simmons via trade... yet.
If Simmons starts the season in Brooklyn and performs at his prior All-Star level while staying healthy, perhaps there could be some interest in him. With a $40.3 million salary, he would have to perform at an incredible level, but with an expiring contract, someone may be more willing to take him on. On the other hand, if he struggles, the Nets could simply look to dump his salary.
Given that he'll be a free agent next offseason, this will be a pivotal season for Simmons to show that he can still play at an NBA level.
