19) Vince Carter and Dirk Nowitzki

After leaving the Phoenix Suns behind, Carter signed with the Dallas Mavericks after they won a championship in 2011. That paired Carter with fellow Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki as well as former teammate Jason Kidd, with the Mavericks hoping that Carter would have enough left in the tank to help them repeat.

Although he wasn't the same explosive player that he had been in Toronto and New Jersey, he successfully transformed into a useful role player while a member of the Mavericks. In fact, he nearly helped them topple the San Antonio Spurs in a heated first-round series in 2014.

Carter hit a game-winning three in game 3, giving the 8th-seeded Mavericks a 2-1 series lead against their arch rivals. He also helped Dallas force a seventh game by putting up 28 points in Game 5, though they were beaten by the eventual champions.

Carter would then leave for the Memphis Grizzlies, then play for the Sacramento Kings, and finally the Atlanta Hawks before retiring in 2020 after 22 seasons in the NBA. Despite being one of the most athletic players in league history, it was ultimately his skill that kept him around, with him playing another 13 seasons after making the last of eight all-star teams.
