2024 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Hawks court chaos, Spurs speed up rebuild, Lakers surprise

6) Charlotte Hornets-Ron Holland
Ignite forward Ron Holland seems to have fallen out of contention to be picked in the top-5, despite him being the second-best player in his recruiting class in 2023 and putting up solid numbers in the G-League.
That potentially makes him a steal for a team looking to swing for the fences and the Charlotte Hornets fit the bill. While they have all-star LaMelo Ball, who is just 22 years old, as well as 2023 number-two overall Brandon Miller, who had a strong rookie season, the Hornets have missed the playoffs the last decade. In fact, they don't currently appear to be close to making it back.
Taking a chance on Holland could pan out in a big way with his two-way star potential. Although he isn't a good shooter at the moment, he managed to average 19.5 points per game, largely off of strong drives to the rim, creating in transition, and off cuts.
Playing alongside Ball, he could thrive as the receiver of his flashy passes while also helping the Hornets build a starting lineup that has size at every position, with Ball, Holland, and Miller all at least 6'7. That might help them defensively, especially given that Holland has the size needed to defend bigger wings and has a knack for forcing turnovers with his effort and timing. All that makes him seem like a possible fit for Charlotte.
