2024 NBA Mock Draft 2.0: Hawks play it safe, Wizards go big, Spurs fill two needs

14) Portland Trail Blazers—Tidjane Salaun
The Blazers are currently a mix of young prospects like Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe and veterans like Jerami Grant and Deandre Ayton, with Anfernee Simons somewhere in the middle. They probably prefer to keep it that way to remain semi-competitive as they wait and see whether their prospects turn into something. With a second lottery pick in a questionable draft, the Blazers might use the 14th pick to take a big swing and that might mean they take Tidjane Salaun.
At 18, Salaun is among the youngest players in this year's draft, and while he is raw, he is already 6'9, athletic, and has a 7'1 wingspan. Those tools help him to be active on the defensive end, though his activity doesn't always lead to positive results.
Still, his great effort and physical tools can be honed by the Blazers in the hopes that he'll be able to defend both small forwards and power forwards in the NBA. Offensively, he should be a capable 3-point shooter and be effective in scoring off of cuts to the basket, suggesting that he has a good chance of carving out a role as a 3-and-D player.
