8) Ben Simmons

One-time NBA star Ben Simmons has been a shell of himself the last few seasons as he's battled through a trade demand, injuries, and inconsistency. He missed all of the 2021–22 season, only played 42 games last season, and 15 games this season before being shut down.

Now 27 years old and entering the final year of his contract, the Nets will surely try to trade him in hopes of moving on from one of the last remaining members of the Big 3 era. With $40 million owed to him for next season, that is tricky but not impossible since teams could be willing to take back his expiring contract in exchange for getting off their own bad contracts.

Brooklyn could receive picks in return for doing so or they could use their own selections and Simmons' contract to star chase. That might be the most likely outcome for the Nets, who seem desperate to add another star to build around Mikal Bridges. That will be easier said than done but it could result in Simmons finding a new team this summer after failing in Brooklyn too.
