Pelicans Resolution: Get Zion Williamson to take his NBA body seriously.

New Orleans needs… Zion to address his NBA physique. His weight has been a concern ever since entering the NBA, specifically for his durability and health. Williamson is currently listed at 6’6” and 284 pounds.

After playing in just 24 games during his rookie season and 29 games last season, Williamson has only ever had one year with somewhat of a semblance of health. In 2020-2021, he played 61 games and had his best statistical season and eye-test season. This year, he has played 26/32 games for the Pelicans which is a good pace, but the last thing New Orleans needs is another looming injury.

A healthy Williamson is also crucial because we have now seen what this Pelicans team looks like with Brandon Ingram as their top option for four seasons, and it is not a title contender. Ingram is best suited as a 2nd (dare I say 3rd?) option for a championship roster. Williamson, while unreliable, is clearly an All-NBA-caliber player when on the court and looking his best.

If nothing else, if the Pelicans are weary about the long-term outlook with Williamson playing for their franchise, him getting healthier and taking his body seriously, increases his trade value.
