NBA Trades: Would the Milwaukee Bucks agree to the trade?
If the Bucks are forced to trade Giannis, this would be just about the perfect deal for them. After all, they would be getting a 24-year-old superstar, even though he is injury-prone. He will still be a potential building block and allow the Pelicans to retool and hopefully contend in a few years.
Not just that, but they will be getting a starting-caliber player in Johnson, who, despite his inconsistency, was highly effective during the second half of this season, averaging 14.8 points in just 25.1 minutes per game during that span. Add in the second pick in this year's draft and a 2029 first, and it would be a fantastic deal.
It's hard to imagine another deal that would land them a star, and it would certainly be tempting. The Bucks could opt to let Brook Lopez and Bobby Portis Jr. leave in free agency and hope that Damian Lillard comes back and plays reasonably well over the final two seasons of his contract.
The Bucks probably wouldn't be a playoff team over those couple of seasons. But they would be able to clear the decks and properly rebuild around Williamson if he were able to stay healthy. All told, if Giannis wants to play elsewhere and the Spurs are on his list of landing spots, then the Bucks would likely consider this trade.
Overall, the deal would give the Bucks, Spurs, and Pelicans enough reason to consider it. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen, but it would be a fairly realistic trade that could actually come to fruition.
