Despite some blockbuster NBA trades to start the offseason, the Golden State Warriors have been one of the quietest teams. They already struck out on landing Giannis Antetokounmpo and seemingly have few options to significantly improve next season.
However, according to Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor, that may not be the case. According to O'Connor, the Warriors are planning to pursue Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis in hopes of bringing LeBron James to the Bay Area.
If Golden State is able to trade for Davis, they are hoping that it could be the final piece to lure in LeBron. It's a risky gamble, but one the Warriors have to make.
The Warriors must move heaven and earth to land LeBron James
Perhaps Golden State is looking to move Jimmy Butler and a first-round pick to the Wizards for Davis. Davis would give them more size, something they desperately need, but that comes with injury concerns.
Ironically, they already have Kristaps Porzingis, who isn't exactly known for his durability. Perhaps they are looking to instead move Porzingis in a package for Davis, which would make more sense for both teams.
But, if they were to land Davis, one would think that it would make them the front runner to add the bronze as well.
They have nothing to lose by pursuing LeBron and Anthony Davis
It's ironic that the Warriors have been linked to two stars that are over the age of 33. After all, Golden State already has one of the oldest teams in the NBA.
If they were to add both players, they would become even older and more susceptible to injuries. That was a massive issue last season with Steph Curry missing more than 30 games and Butler tearing his ACL.
Nevertheless, if they can have Curry, Davis, and LeBron healthy at the same time, it will give them a small but real chance at winning the Western Conference.
The only other option they have is to look to make smaller trades in free agency. However, adding Davis and LeBron should be a top priority.
