With the Charlotte Hornets likely to have another high lottery pick in the 2025 NBA draft, they appear to be at a crossroads. They have failed to make the playoffs for nine straight seasons and are nowhere near being ready to contend. That has led to rumors about the availability of star LaMelo Ball. Ball has had a career year this season, but that hasn't stopped the Hornets from continuing to struggle.

Charlotte's lack of improvement is reportedly wearing on Ball, who is hoping to compete for a championship, according to Hoops Hype's Mike Scotto. Scotto has reported at least twice now about Ball potentially being available, and this seems to add further smoke to the fire. If he is made available, then he would be an intriguing trade prospect for teams on the rise or contenders looking to get a young star playmaker.

NBA Rumors: Should the Charlotte Hornets trade LaMelo Ball this summer?

Ball has struggled to stay healthy over the last few seasons, but when he has been, he has been incredibly productive, with him averaging 26.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 7 assists this season. His shooting is also a positive, and while his defense is hit or miss, he could potentially thrive on a new team with better teammates.

Be that as it may, his trade value could be potentially tricky to gauge. After all, Mikal Bridges fetched the Brooklyn Nets five first-round picks while Luka Doncic got the Dallas Mavericks Anthony Davis, a young starter in Max Christie, and a first-round pick.

Acquiring an established star for a Ball probably wouldn't make sense for the Hornets considering they will pick in the top five in this year's draft. Then again, trading a young star for a haul of picks may not be all that appealing to the Hornets, who have struggled to draft in recent years, even though that may be the better route.

If he were to become available, then teams such as the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Brooklyn Nets could all have interest in him, though other stars such as Kevin Durant, Trae Young, and possibly even Zion Williamson could all be available this summer, which could hamper his trade value.

Ultimately, if Ball becomes available, then several teams could be very interested in him. However, given the fact that other stars will be available and the uncertainty surrounding his trade value, it may force the Hornets to reconsider trading him unless he were to force her hand.
