The Golden State Warriors can't catch a break. After an offseason spent striking out on stars, the Warriors may be without all-star Kristaps Porzingis for the foreseeable future.

He reportedly doesn't have a timeline for his return, even though his recent comments about his health make it sound like he's close to making his return. That seems optimistic given his lengthy injury history and the potential stops and starts with rehabing injuries.

Hopefully, he won't be out for long, but if he is, the Warriors may be even worse than initially expected.

Confusing Kristaps Porzingis injury update leaves Warriors hanging

With Porzingis out indefinitely, it leaves the Warriors in a bit of a bind. They simply aren't talented enough to win games if they are the short-handed.

Remember, they will be without Jimmy Butler until at least December or January and without Moses Moody for all of this season. Having two starters out for all or most of this season as well as Porzingis means the Warriors are incredibly shorthanded.

That might increase the need for them to trade for a star, with New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns being a potential option after he and the Knicks failed to agree to an extension. The Knicks don't have to trade him this season, but he can become a free agent after this year, and the Warriors may be the ideal landing spot for him.

The Warriors need a mid-season shakeup

Barring a trade like that, the Warriors don't have much of a chance to make noise in the Western Conference. Perhaps they attempt to trade for New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III.

They were previously linked to Murphy III but ultimately declined to trade for him. Now, with Porzingis out indefinitely, they may reconsider.

However, they probably aren't going to make a big move until January or February, giving them a chance to see if they will better than expected. That might put them in an early hole, especially in a loaded Western conference, but stranger things have happened.

Hopefully, Porzingis is correct, and he is nearing his return. On the other hand, his lengthy injury history doesn't leave much room for optimism.
