Just when you thought the New York Knicks' offseason was over, a new report suggests that they could land a top remaining free agent. According to the New York Post's Stefan Bondy, as well as Hoops Hype's Mike Scotto, the Knicks have been linked to free agent sharpshooter Malik Beasley.
The Knicks touched base previously with Malik Beasley's camp and are viewed as a potential option for the 3-point marksman, a league source says. Beasley was recently cleared in a federal gambling investigation and is probably the top unrestricted free agent on the market. The…

The Knicks and Cavaliers have checked in on Malik Beasley, sources told @hoopshype. Knicks executive Gersson Rosas signed Beasley to a four-year, $60M deal with the Timberwolves. Knicks and Cavs have minimum deals to offer. Beasley is no longer a target of a federal investigation

Beasley was one of the top free agents available. However, a poorly timed gambling investigation resulted in him remaining on the sidelines nearly two months into the offseason. That obviously is bad news for Beasley's bank account, but he could salvage the situation by signing with a contender on a one-year minimum deal.
That will give him the chance to become a free agent next season, hopefully after improving his stock by contributing on a contender.
The New York Knicks must move quickly to sign Malik Beasley
After coming up short in the Eastern Conference Final last season, the Knicks have made significant changes to try and level up. The fired coach is Tom Thibodeau, and they added Guerschon Yabusele and Jordan Clarkson on the cheap.
Now, they could land Malik Beasley, capping a surprisingly active offseason considering they were handcuffed with what they could do. While they made the questionable decision to give Mikal Bridges a near-max contract extension, they solved a major problem.
They now have a strong nine-man rotation. That allows them to rely less on their starters and pace themselves rather than having their best players play big minutes.
Malik Beasley would bolster an already stacked Knicks bench
Adding Beasley to the mix would give them a proven shooter who could help to diversify their offense. For large stretches of games, it was the Jalen Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns show, which, despite them being their two best players, made for a predictable offensive attack.
Adding a reliable knockdown shooter to the mix in Beasley, in combination with Clarkson, who is among the NBA's more prolific bench scorers, and the Knicks' second unit could cook next season.
Factor in Yabusele, who is versatile enough to play both power forward and center while being able to space the floor and throw his weight around, and the Knicks' front court suddenly looks a lot better.
All told, Beasley will likely have plenty of offers for the minimum, with contenders hoping to add a shooter of his caliber. However, the Knicks have already been linked to Beasley. And with them having a clear path to the Eastern Conference Finals, him signing on for a one-year deal could help both him and New York.
