Kevin Durant has not only been one of the league’s best scorers since his NBA debut in 2007, but he has established himself as a legend of the game.

From winning four Olympic gold medals, becoming USA basketball’s all-time leading scorer, winning two championships and two finals MVPs, and a league MVP, Durant has nothing left to achieve in his career. He will be a first ballot Hall of Famer no matter what.

Durant is in the twilight of his career, so these next couple seasons should be all about appreciating what he has given to the game. With the NBA reportedly expected to expand, Durant’s next team has never been more obvious.

Kevin Durant should finish his career as a Seattle SuperSonic, bringing his journey full circle

The Sonics have been rumored to be coming back for the last few years, but their comeback has gained a lot of steam recently. The NBA Board of Governors voted earlier this week to explore the possibility of adding Seattle as an NBA city. The league also wants to explore the possibility of bringing an NBA franchise to Vegas.

The Sonics selected Durant with the second overall pick in 2007 and he played his rookie season in Seattle, before the franchise relocated to Oklahoma City and became the Thunder, where Durant truly made his mark.

We are already seeing some player angle to play for the Sonics when they do officially come back, with Warriors guard Gary Payton II saying he would request a trade to Seattle. Payton II is the son of Seattle legend Gary Payton, who built his Hall of Fame career there.

Durant is one of two active NBA players to play for the Sonics, with Rockets forward Jeff Green being the other. Heading back to Seattle to finish his illustrious NBA career makes too much sense for him.

Given the fact that he only got to don the green and white for one season, it is only right that Durant gets one last chance to do so after all that he is accomplished. It would also likely eliminate any bad blood that still stems from his move to the Golden State Warriors in 2016, not that Durant still cares about that though.

The Sonics are an important part of NBA history and Durant was part of that for a short time. Getting the chance to add to it is too good of a move for him to pass up on.
