One of the WNBA's most polarising figures is Chennedy Carter. While her on-court talent is undeniable, her personal issues have been problematic in many locker rooms. Now with the Las Vegas Aces, Carter is showing the league exactly what she's made of on a championship team.

Carter was drafted by the Atlanta Dream as the fourth pick overall in 2020. Her value was almost immediately obvious, both on offense and defense. She also plays a very physical game, which is beneficial across the board in a league where physicality is the name of the game.

That's also where the problems started. In her second season with the Dream, Carter was suspended for allegedly wanting to fight a teammate. She didn't return to the court that year and was traded to the Sparks. Again, she ended up benched due to what was reported as "poor conduct."

After being unrostered for the 2023 season, she spent 2025 with the Sky. This was the season where she notoriously bodied Caitlin Clark after a play was whistled down. She was again unrostered for 2025 but is an Ace for 2026, the most dominant team in the WNBA for the last few years.

Carter might finally have found the right team in Las Vegas

Keep in mind that Carter wasn't sitting at home during her offseasons or during the WNBA seasons she didn't have a team. She has consistently played overseas in Turkey and China, and done well. That has allowed her to continue to develop her game and become an even more dangerous player.

That is even more apparent than ever on the Aces. In an average of 21.4 minutes per game in 2026, Carter is collecting 19.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 steals. She's also shooting 67.2% from the field and 37.5% from three. All but one of these stats are improvements on her career.

Carter is fast, agile, and can pivot quickly. Her shot-creation is next level, as is her explosiveness on fast breaks. Those same skills make her incredibly dangerous on defense, which is made even more effective by her intensity and physicality. Carter could definitely play a part in getting another chip.

During her season with the Sky, Clark said that Carter should be the WNBA Sixth Player of the Year. As such, it's no surprise her current Aces teammate, the legendary A'ja Wilson, is ecstatic to finally have her on the same roster. This could be the season Carter finally gets the respect she deserves.
