Door swings wide open for Heat to steal key free agent away from Celtics

He'd be a perfect fit.

In the aftermath of the Miami Heat trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo, attention now turns to filling out their roster. They will no doubt have a lack of shooting after trading several of their best players to acquire the former two-time MVP. Fortunately, they may already have the perfect free agency target.

Boston Celtics guard Anfernee Simons will be a free agent and could potentially be had for part of the mid-level exception. Adding him to the mix should be top priority for the Heat.

After all, Simons is a career three-point sniper, having drilled 38% of his 7.1 attempts per game over the last 6 years. That makes him one of the best high-volume shooters in the NBA. Despite that, he seems to be undervalued and the Heat said look to pounce

The Miami Heat must sign Anfernee Simons in free agency

With the Heat potentially not being able to bring back Norm Powell, they face a major problem. They will be light on guards who can score, potentially making them an attractive option for Simons.

He could have a huge role in Miami and give them a big boost. In fact, he could even give them a 15-point-per-game scorer behind Bam Adebayo and Giannis. Having him as arguably their third-best scorer, which probably doesn't bode well.

Then again, Adebayo can always drop 83 points in a game to help make up the difference. All jokes aside, the Heat knew that by trading for Giannis, they'd be thin elsewhere. Now their attention turns to figuring out the rest of the roster.

The Miami Heat desperately need to win the off-season

By winning the offseason, I'm not including the Giannis trade. They perhaps gave up too much for an aging All Star, but they finally got the player they've been chasing for years. Now, they will need to work their magic.

They have a history of turning nothing into something and having random players have career seasons. They need that to happen if they want to be a legit contender next season.

It's hard to imagine them having enough to take on the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Nevertheless, this could be seen as year one in a four- or five-year window.

Of course, don't expect the heat to take a year off to try and figure things out. They'll do everything they can to build the best possible roster, and that should include them signing Simons in free agency.
