Bold Lakers and Pacers deal brings LeBron and AD the perfect frontcourt fit

Anthony Davis is at his best when he doesn’t have to carry the load as a full-time center. The last time the Lakers were a true contender, during their 2020 championship run, they had a strong rotation of big men. Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee gave Davis the freedom to dominate as a power forward without the physical grind of battling opposing centers.

Myles Turner could bring some of that dynamic back. The two-time blocks leader is averaging 15.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game this season, and his ability to shoot 36.7% from three makes him a perfect modern big man. Adding Turner could improve the Lakers’ defense and create more space for LeBron and Davis to operate offensively.

The Pacers value everything Myles Turner brings to the table, but there’s one significant issue: they might not be able to afford him. Turner is set to hit free agency this summer, and his next contract could be too steep for Indiana to justify within the team's financial plans.

Moreover, there’s no guarantee that a high-caliber player like Turner will re-sign, even if the Pacers are willing to make a competitive offer. Trading him now provides Indiana with an opportunity to gain valuable assets and reshape their roster, mitigating the risk of losing him for nothing.

However, if they are confident in their ability to retain him financially and he remains committed to the team, moving him could prove to be a gamble.

The Lakers have a track record of nurturing talent, with many stars getting their start in L.A. before reaching heights with new teams. To make this trade less of a gamble, Hachimura’s potential must be highlighted.
