NBA News: Giannis’ new contract extension

Milwaukee Bucks fans can breathe a sigh of relief after superstar Giannis Antetounmkpo signed a contract extension on Monday. The extension will add another two years to his contract, meaning that he will be in Milwaukee for at least the next four seasons.

Interestingly, that coincides with fellow star Damian Lillard’s contract, which was recently acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers. In theory, that gives the Bucks four years with their two best players, assuming neither asks for a trade before then. Had they not made the trade for Lillard, it’s possible that Giannis wouldn’t have signed an extension, especially with the Bucks core aging around him.

That more than justifies their decision to move Jrue Holiday, Grayson Allen, two pick swaps, and a first since it not only netted them an upgrade in Lillard but made Giannis’ extension possible. With Giannis locked in, it officially takes him off the market and keeps teams such as the Miami Heat and New York Knicks from making a run at him.

Better still, if he plays out this contract, he could sign another extension at 32, making it far more likely that he will play out his career as a member of the Bucks.
