Grade the Trade: Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks have managed to overhaul their roster since February, but they have yet to upgrade at center. At the moment, long-time Maverick Dwight Powell is set to start, but the Mavericks have been linked to centers such as Clint Capela. This proposed deal would net them Robinson instead, at the cost of a first-round pick.

That might be worth it since the center position is the Mavericks’ biggest area for improvement. While it may not be a pressing need, Dallas has been aggressive, working to improve their roster. That is no doubt in the hopes of appeasing superstar Luka Doncic.

Thus, making a move to acquire a center such as Robinson, who’s a young, athletic, big man, might make sense. After all, he would provide the Mavericks with a mobile rim protector who could help Dallas’ defense and catch lobs from Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

After JaVale McGee failed in that role, the Mavericks are clearly looking for that type of player, given their interest in Capela, and Robinson also fits that mold. Add in Boucher, who is an effective backup to Pascal Siakam, and the Mavs might just agree to the proposed deal.
