NBA free agents that could still help teams – Christian Wood

Christian Wood falls into the same category of remaining free agents who make one wonder if he is seeking too much money or if there genuinely is no interest despite his solid play. Wood just had a good year with the Dallas Mavericks, having averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game, primarily off of the bench. Yet, the center remains unsigned.

Any team seeking frontcourt depth should be giving Wood a call right now. The 6-foot-10 big man would provide more scoring, rebounding, and interior protection for any team. At this point, Wood will seemingly have to rehabilitate his value by taking a prove-it deal. Teams are unwilling to give him a big contract right now, so he’ll have to take a cheap one now to cash out next off-season.

Two teams who could use Wood are two teams who have been linked to him in the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers. Per The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, Wood has an interest in joining the Heat, but it depends on who is there following a potential Damian Lillard trade. Buha reported earlier in the off-season (Subscription required) that the Lakers were considering bringing in Wood.

Christian Wood would be a good fit for either team and could very well help them in their quest to be the 2023-24 NBA champions.
