NBA free agents that could still help teams – Will Barton

The 2022-23 NBA season was certainly a forgettable one for Will Barton. He was acquired by the Washington Wizards before the season but never quite fit in. He was eventually waived, which let him sign with the Toronto Raptors. Yet, he didn’t play an overly prominent role there either. These poor stints in Washington and Toronto are why Barton has not been signed this off-season.

Despite his poor showing last season, Barton still has something left in the tank. Over the seven seasons prior to last season, he averaged 14.2 points, five rebounds, and 3.4 assists per contest. Those are certainly solid numbers from the guard. At 32 years old, Barton could undoubtedly still bounce back from a poor 2022-23 and help someone out as a reserve.

If signed by a team, Barton could provide scoring, perimeter shooting, and solid facilitating, which are all intriguing aspects. On top of that, he’s a 6-foot-6 wing, and in today’s NBA, teams cannot ever have enough wings on the depth chart. Any deal he takes will unquestionably be a prove-it deal, which would make signing him a very low-risk move for any team.

Some team may get a nice rotational piece if they take a flyer on Barton ahead of training camp.
