Noting Portland’s cravings for two-way wings, they could receive a diamond in the rough. Saddiq Bey has shown some solid potential from the perimeter and on the glass. A roll of the dice on Bruno Fernando would not hurt either. The Blazers have been in desperation of defensive-big help. Turning 25, the journeyman Fernando is quite frankly not the solution. However, his play on the low block with capabilities as a shot blocker provides rotation depth. Furthermore, the reps the former Maryland big is continuously getting via G-League and Summer League affiliations.

A key in all this for Portland? Every ounce of positive or negative Lillard illusion or fantasy is finally out of their hair. All of his unpopular desires. One of the best shows and guards in basketball as a budding superstar in the making takes the wheel of a ship with an outright-fascinating future. All Portland and Lillard’s shouting gossip around the league would be erased as his age and money continue to rise. They get the ultimate piece and package in return.

This blockbuster would absolutely improve the landscape of both franchises with both pursuing new identities. John Hollinger’s analysis would predict the Hawks gaining five wins within this imaginary, eye-opening scenario. Atlanta would instantly gain more attraction as an affable environment for those available. No disrespect to Young, this is a top-75 player and beyond coming off a 32-PPG season that included a 71-point extravaganza. Lillard is one of the best scorers basketball has seen. But guess what, the same could go for the Blazers.

A five-win decrease projection for who turned into a dumpster fire in the West seems viable. It is more so the bigger picture. The former All-NBA stud at age 23 has plenty more room to grow and blossom with Young not even remotely close to his prime. Young is still one of the most dominant point guards and prominent scorers in the league, who once led a historic trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. He has a long career of greatness and achievements ahead, already with plenty of early experience which is hard to find at that age.

Portland would now have a much larger window with plenty of leeway for growth and mistake. To whisper a huge kicker, the Blazers could turn into even more of a destination than they ever were for many years to come. Young is entering his sixth season. This may sound insane, but despite every pro or anti-Hawks hearsay, Young could favorably be next in line behind Lillard for the next face of the league to seek departure. This would be a tremendous new foundation internally working in progress for Portland.

Oh yeah, and everyone knows about Young’s grace under pressure from his early career. One of the best in the game at controlling opposing atmospheres with his history of carrying his team through ginormous playoff obstacles. Just ask New York Knick fans.

The move would thread the needle for both sides in organizational terms for the present and future. Why was the fascination of this idea not brought into existence?
