Trae Young Gets Traded for Damian Lillard

Some might argue its worthiness due to Atlanta subtracting years. Lillard is also signed through 2027 following his two-year max extension last July. He is expected to be earning $58M in 2026, and up to $63M in the final year of his deal.

Not for nothing, with Thursday being the big fortune teller regarding Portland’s greediness for a star or veteran, now is the time for Lillard to make the request. As Brian Windhorst said in that podcast, “Sometimes, the greatest thing you can do is to say goodbye.” Windy made it clear how each day that goes by makes it more of a hurdle to receive significant value for Lillard. Thanks to his age and jaw-dropping salary. It is also highly unlikely that the Blazers suddenly appear to be a mouthwatering destination for players anytime soon.

The seven-time All-NBA maestro is turning 33 on July 15. Most would agree that there may not be an MVP-caliber player in the league more deserving of competing for Larry O’Brien. With gusts of heavy populations wanting Portland to write the ship.

Lillard and the Blazers’ lone Conference Finals reach was when they were swept by the Warriors in 2019. If it is time he attempts to inch somewhat closer to winning, Dame would thrive in the East with the Hawks. Atlanta would have players and movable parts with an intriguing roster.

In a possible partnership with Dejounte Murray, Lillard could be a driving force to making it mesh considering his backcourt experience with CJ McCollum. Dame could simply have Atlanta in the midst of the playoff frame.

Young is set to be making $45M and $48M in his final two seasons through 2027. Now, $40M and $43M for the next two years. Lillard is making up to $48M through 2025.
