Ranking the 5 best rebounders in the 2023 NBA Draft
3. C Victor Wembanyama, France
Victor Wembanyama is arguably the best prospect in the NBA since LeBron James. So it’s no surprise that the French big is an adept rebounder – he’s good at pretty much everything.
Unsurprisingly, Wembanyama’s rebounding ability is linked heavily to his height. He is 7-foot-4 and has a ridiculous 8-foot wingspan. Wembanyama didn’t have to work particularly hard to grab 10.4 rebounds per game in the LNB this season – his length advantage pulls rebounds to him, like a magnet.
Not only is Wembanyama a strong rebounder, but he’s the rare big man with the skill to then take the ball up the court and set up offense for his team. Opponents need to get back on defense as soon as Wembanyama gets his hands on a board, or it’s already too late.
The one thing working against Wembanyama is his thin frame. He’s only 230 pounds, which could be considered wiry for someone of his incredible stature. Shorter but stronger bigs may be able to force him away from the paint and box Wembanyama out for rebounds.
Wembanyama can be a great rebounder at the next level purely by osmosis. But he cares about all facets of the game and is willing to work to get the boards, which should make him a natural double-double contender on a nightly basis.
