NBA Trades: The Toronto Raptors land Towns in a deal with the Timberwolves.

The Toronto Raptors find themselves at a bit of a crossroads. Despite a talented roster, they missed the playoffs and appear as though they are ready to press the reset button. However, Towns becoming available might get them to reconsider. With him under contract for at least the next four seasons, he has less say than he otherwise would in where he plays. That opens things up to teams such as the Raptors, who aren’t viewed as a destination among stars.

The Raptors toyed with the idea of trading OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam at the trade deadline, though after failing to make All-NBA, keeping Siakam may be harder. That makes him the most likely player to be included in a hypothetical deal between the Wolves and Raptors.

Siakam for Towns straight-up would give both teams a different look. For Toronto, they have several long and athletic wings, with Siakam being the best, but they have hit a wall, and Towns could change how they play for the better. Siakam could do the same for Minnesota, considering he is more versatile, even allowing the Timberwolves to play smaller and faster lineups that include him at center.

If the Timberwolves are looking to stay competitive in the short term, this is probably the move for them, though Minnesota would have to worry about retaining Siakam. However, they could agree to an extension before he hits free agency in 2024.
