NBA Draft Mistake #27: Charlotte drafting Adam Morrison over Brandon Roy
The 2006 NBA Draft was mostly forgettable, thanks in large part to its lack of star power. Only two players in the top 20 made the all-star team. Even then, the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Hornets) decision to draft Adam Morrison third overall was highly questionable.
To his credit, he did average 28 points in his final season at Gonzaga, but few expected his offensive success to translate. They were right. His best season in the NBA came during his rookie year when he averaged 11.8 points on an ugly 37.6% field goal percentage. It was downhill from there.
He missed his entire sophomore season and underwhelmed in his third season, averaging 4.5 points, with the Bobcats before he was dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers. Luckily for Morrison, he joined the Lakers at the right time. He happened to win two championship rings in his final two seasons in the NBA, ending his career on a high note.
Still, a third-round pick failing to earn a second contract is pretty bad, and it is only fitting that one of the worst franchises in NBA history (current or defunct) made one of the biggest draft mistakes in NBA history.
