The ping pongs fell into place and the order for the 2023 NBA Draft has been set. The San Antonio Spurs will pick first and it’s a foregone conclusion they will be taking French big man Victor Wembanyama, one of the most hyped prospects in NBA history.

While not as extensive as the NFL Draft, the NBA draft fuels each franchise with hope, either for the present or for the future. It’s a chance to make big splashes, big trades, or mine gems that could be difference makers to a team down the road.

Because of the unique prospects at the top of this year’s class the 2023 NBA Draft could be particularly special for some of the league’s franchises, particularly ones that have struggled in recent campaigns.

Which five teams have the most to gain during the 2023 NBA Draft next month?

With an opportunity to add a franchise-changing big man for the third time, the Spurs are an obvious team with something to gain in the draft, hoping Wembanyama becomes the next David Robinson or Tim Duncan. We’ll get into more detail about San Antonio’s situation, though.

San Antonio isn’t the only team in the Western Conference with the ability to accelerate a rebuild, though. There are also some young teams out in the Eastern Conference that may finally be able to rise to the next tier with certain draft moves.
