3 teams that should take a gamble on Dillon Brooks in NBA free agency

No. 3 – Dallas Mavericks
Similarly to the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks traded away their best wing defender at the NBA trade deadline for a Brooklyn Net. In this case, Dallas sent Dorian Finney-Smith, along with other assets, to Brooklyn in exchange for Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks’ defense took a hit after the move, and they need to prioritize surrounding Irving and Luka Doncic with defenders next season. Brooks could undeniably help try and fill the void left behind by Finney-Smith.
Brooks would be a seamless fit in Dallas around Irving and Doncic. His offense may even receive a big boost due to the sheer number of open looks he’d be getting. During the 2022-23 season, the forward shot 73-of-196 (37.2 percent) on his “wide open” triples, per NBA.com/stats. Playing on a team with two of the greatest offensive minds in the game today, those looks would inevitably increase, and his production could improve. Still, this move would ultimately be about getting an energetic and desperately needed wing defender on the roster.
Both parties could benefit from joining forces here, but at the end of the day, it will be fascinating to see where Brooks lands after this shocking development. Keep an eye on these three teams.
