NBA Draft: Finding the perfect fit for each of the top prospects
By Rowan Kent
Perfect Fit #1: Dallas Mavericks and Brandon Miller
After a sputtering end to their season, the Dallas Mavericks find themselves entering the most pivotal offseason in franchise history. They traded almost all of their assets for Kyrie Irving, and while the pairing of him and Luka Doncic made offensive fireworks together, the team as a whole couldn’t defend at a high enough level to compensate.
If the team can’t improve the overall quality of the roster, it wouldn’t be shocking if Doncic asked out in a trade. That would be a doomsday scenario for the Mavs, but not one that they can avoid without keeping their lottery pick. They’ll have an even better chance if they can leap into the upper echelon of the draft and make some noise there.
If Dallas jumps up into the top five, the perfect fit for them is Brandon Miller. As a semi-heralded freshman coming into Alabama, Miller torched every opponent that came his way on the way to winning many major awards. His physical profile, shooting touch, and work ethic are all major parts of what make him such a good prospect.
Despite Dallas needing defense, nabbing a player of Miller’s caliber would be just the sort of move that shows Luka Doncic that the team is willing and able to put more stars around him. Miller would be afforded the time to adjust to the NBA and fit in as a third scorer, while also taking some of the weight off of both Doncic and Irving.
If he pans out, Miller would be the perfect fit to complete an offensively lethal big three that defines the modern era of three-point shooting.
