NBA stars that played for one team #5: John Havlicek

When discussing the greatest players who have spent their entire careers with just one team, it’s hard to leave Celtics guard John Havlicek’s name off the list. While he often gets overlooked when discussing great Celtics players, he still holds a number of team records. That is an accomplishment in and of itself considering that the team has a record 50 Hall of Fame players, with Havlicek being one of them.

He’s spent all 16 seasons of his career in Boston and holds the records for most regular-season games played (1270) and points scored (26,395). He also won a staggering eight championships, tied for third-most all-time. Despite that, he is relatively unknown compared to Larry Bird, who joined the Celtics the season after he retired.

Both were obviously great players, and each spent their entire career with the Boston Celtics; that being said, Havlicek was arguably better. He made 13 all-star teams and achieved that impressive feat by being a top-notch scorer as well as a talented defender, allowing him to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His two-way ability allowed him to win like few others, and the Celtics owe a lot of their NBA record 18 titles, in part, to Havlicek.
