NBA stars that played for one team #6: Larry Bird

Of all the great players who have played for the Boston Celtics, Larry Bird is likely the best known and that is really saying something. Bird made his debut at the age of 23 in 1979, and it ushered in a new era of greatness for the Celtics. With Bird as their best player, he led them to five NBA Finals, where they clashed with the Showtime Lakers and rival Magic Johnson three times.

Those legendary series helped improve the NBA’s popularity and made both Bird and Johnson iconic players. During his peak in the mid-80s, Bird was one of the best players in the NBA.

In fact, Bird is one of just three players to ever win league MVP three straight seasons and the last player to do so in nearly four decades.

Not only that, but he would also go on to win three championships as well as two NBA Finals MVPs during his time with the Celtics. Bird retired as a Celtic in 1992 and, by the time he was done, had solidified Boston as one of the most successful franchises in North America.
