Under-the-Radar Prospect #6: Jordan Walsh, Arkansas
The recent Razorback run to the sweet sixteen has helped hide the fact that, as a whole, this Arkansas team has been disappointing. They were a preseason contender who was expected to run the SEC, yet injuries and poor spacing led to unexpected stumbles in the regular season.
Lost in the mix of Nick Smith Jr.’s injury issues and Anthony Black’s emergence has been the consistent wing play of Jordan Walsh. As one of the most athletic wings in his graduating class, Walsh has been more of a speculative prospect than a finished product for a few years.
Nothing changed at Arkansas, except for the violent way that Walsh’s defense translated to college basketball. He didn’t let the fact that he wasn’t an offensive threat take away from the suffocating perimeter torture that he exacted on defense. With his ludicrously long arms, quick feet, and great instincts, Walsh was a monster on defense for Arkansas this year:
Although not every team would hand Walsh the needed reps to make him into an offensive threat, every team would love to have a player as impactful on the wing as him. He has the length, speed, and brain to play playoff defense yesterday and with the rise in perimeter stars, any team that’s serious about contending would be wise to grab an under-the-radar wing player like Walsh.
