Since the 2014-15 season, the Golden State Warriors have dominated the Western Conference almost every season. They’ve made six NBA Finals appearances and have won four championships. However, they currently rank only 5th in the Western Conference with a 36-33 record and are arguably not even among the West’s top contenders anymore.

With that being said, it’s easy to see that there’s more parity in the NBA now than ever. That’s not the only reason to be excited for the postseason, though. Here are several reasons why this year’s West playoffs will be the most exciting one in years.

With New Stars Comes New Expectations

When looking back on this time in the NBA, many will likely label it the “era of trades”. While player movement still happened often in previous decades, there has never been a time when so many stars were constantly on the move.

Some fans are happy about the increased player movement while others aren’t. Whichever side you lean towards, one thing is for sure: with new stars come new expectations, and high expectations certainly add a lot of hype to the postseason. Three teams will hold the weight of high expectations more than others coming into the playoffs after recently acquiring a star player.
