San Antonio Spurs: Updated depth chart after a cascade of trades
By Cal Durrett
The San Antonio Spurs were surprisingly active near the trade deadline after developing a reputation for not making mid-season trades over the years. The Spurs made three trades in the days leading up to the deadline, adding to their considerable draft stockpile while affecting their roster and rotation going forward.
The Spurs’ roster has been flooded this season with an unusual number of roster moves for a team that often values continuity. That has been in part due to being in rebuild mode and out of playoff contention. Now, with that being said, let’s take a look at the team’s updated depth chart.
Spurs depth: Point Guard
- Tre Jones
- Devonte’ Graham
- Blake Wesley
Point guard was the Spurs’ biggest question mark entering the 2022–23 season, but not anymore. Tre Jones beat out 2021 lottery pick Joshua Primo for the role in the lead-up to the season after he played well enough to justify starting. Of course, Primo is no longer on the team, and Jones has continued to improve in his role.
Following Primo’s dismissal, 2022 first-round pick Blake Wesely assumed backup point guard duties but missed a large chunk of time due to injury. He’s back now and continues to show flashes, but with Devonte’ Graham now on the team, he may see a decreased role.
