Rui Hachimura’s seamless fit with the Lakers

Rui Hachimura has already proven that he will be an important cog in the Lakers’ playoff hopes after only a few games. He’s been able to become a great wing defender and, offensively, a reliable secondary scorer that can make perimeter jumpers while being a good paint touch generator.

In five games played by Hachimura, the averages have been decent with 12 points and 4.8 rebounds on 53.1 TS%. The issue now is whether there will be other moves to make or if the acquisition of Hachimura will be enough to help the Lakers reach their goal.

Assessing if the trade is going to be sufficient to turn the Lakers into a playoff contender is a bit early, taking into account the health of each key player as well. The fit is definitely great, especially considering the team’s lack of depth at that position.

Justifying the preceding statement, according to PBP Stats, the trio of Hachimura, James, and Davis has been a big net positive for the Lakers. In 40 minutes, they have shared the court together, and the team is at +11.2 points per 100 possessions. Like the aforementioned dream lineup, it’s interesting to watch them all mesh with one another.

After all the drama that surrounded the Lakers, the window is much more open for them to snag a spot in the postseason. And I’m certain that teams wouldn’t want to see them in a seven-game series.
